MCMS Manager 4.0 and new versions uses web service to access MCMS Servers. So it can be used remotely.

Previews are generated by browsing to the site. If the site uses Form authentication and if guest access is disabled, then it is not possible to get the pages to generate previews. So to generate previews,

I found many log files in IIS log folder. Do I need to generate MCMS log for each and every log file separately and generate report for each and every IIS log file?

No. Any number of log files can be selected at once - to generate MCMS logs. Similarly to generate reports, any number of MCMS log files can be used. So you can do it in one shot.

What is the use of saving the statistics?

By saving the statistics, it can be viewed later using log viewer (MCMS log viewer). So for future use it will be really useful to save those files. Also statistics are generated with available postings. So if the posting is deleted later, its not possible to generate a correct report. So it is a good practice to save those files.

In MCMS Manager (in the main form), there is a Refresh button. Also each and every Channel, Resource Gallery and Template Gallery has refresh context menu. What is the difference between these two?

The refresh in the main form will refresh all channels / postings / resources / resource galleries / templates and template galleries. But those in channel / resource gallery / template gallery will refresh only the Childs of them.

Even after enabling the preview generation for postings when I go to postings, it is not showing previews. It is having a message "Preview is not available...". Why is that?

This message is available until the preview is generated. So the reason may be that the preview is not generated yet, or no preview is available for that posting (e.g. : an error occurred while creating the preview).

In MCMS Manager 2.1, when the resources in the site in huge, it hangs when I check the Using Posting. Why is that?

When there are too many resources, the output is more than a certain amount to the buffer, so it get filled and it hangs. Replace your MCMSManager.exe file (the usual place where this file reside is C:\Program Files\MCMS Manager) with this file (unzip that and put it there). It has the fix for that.

Even though the resource which I'm selecting is used by many postings, when I select Using Posting on resources, it says the resource is not used anywhere. Why is that?

MCMS Manager uses Stefan's Dependency report Component to find the dependency. It needs Admin rights to get the dependency report as it uses internal MCMS API.

I've deleted a posting in Site Manager. Now when I export the sdo which is created by the scripts which is generated by MCMS Manager and when I deploy that sdo the deletion doesn't occur in the imported site. The posting is still in there. Why is that?

When a posting is deleted in Site Manager, it is not actually a delete. Check Deleted items are not deployed from MCMS faq.

So to avoid this problem, create an export script for Deleted item container. Its Guid is - {E4D1911E-9DD3-11D1-B44E-006097071264}.

How can I install MCMS Manager 4.0 and newer? It has two installation, MCMS Manager Client and MCMS Manager Service.

Install the web service on the machine where your MCMS System is running. Give anonymous access to that virtual directory.

Now you can install the client on any machine where .NET framework is installed and try to connected to your MCMS Server. If you use the default installation path, your web service url will be http://<machine name>/MCMSServer/CmsService.asmx. Use this as your web service url in MCMS Login form.

I have a huge MCMS site. I've enabled search (Search Postings, Resources...). I've waited for hours, but Search is not getting enabled/not working properly. Any solutions?

As the site is huge the timeout in IIS must be larger than the default setting. It can be increased by,
-> Go to IIS Manager.
-> Get the properties of the Web Site where you have MCMS Manager webservice.
-> Increase the connection timeout (the default is 120 sec, increase it to the max - 65535 sec).

MCMS Manager 4.0 and newer utilizes more processor and memory. Also Search Posting, Search Resource, Generate Statistics are not enabled when the program is started. What is the reason for that?

MCMS Manager 4.0 and newer have its own MCMS objects. When the application starts, it generates all the objects necessary to do search and other operations. So in the beginning (before the finish of objects generation) it will take more processor (it is the lowest priority thread). But after the generation of all the objects, it should be very much faster.

I'm using web service to connect to MCMS. Incremental Import/Export, User Backup/Restore is not enabled. Why is that?

Creation of Incremental SDO files have some permission issues when accessing via web service. Created files doesn't have required permissions. I'm looking for a solution for this (in MCMS Manager 6.0 this feature is disabled).
